STaSS delighted by confidence vote from Parish Councils

While most charities  are struggling to make ends meet, and getting grants can be a real challenge, more and more parish councils are giving STaSS the green light to work with their parishioners. Campbell Park Parish Council is the latest parish council to fund STaSS to provide support to people living with HIV in their parish, with a grant of £860.

Carole Taylor, STaSS’s Service Co-ordinator said “Completing a grant application is always a time-consuming process and there’s no guarantee of a positive result, but the outcome of this and other successful applications means we can hire a more suitable room to hold our monthly Positive Living Club, and make sure everyone who attends gets a decent meal. Our service users are hugely grateful to Campbell Park and other parish councils that have funded us to date”.

If you’re able to make a donation to STASS, no matter if it’s a little or a lot, it can make a big difference. Just click on the link opposite to Make a Donation. Thank you.

Walk for life 2012

Walk for Life is an annual 10K sponsored walk through central London to raise vital funds to support people living with HIV in severe financial need. If you haven’t noticed already, we’ve decided to have a right royal knees up and go all regal with our fancy dress theme for this year.

There is a £15 registration fee to attend the walk but it always proves to be an excellent day out. The money raised goes to support HIV positive people in our organisation. (We are being a bit naughty this year and only collecting our own sponsorship money, saving the lengthy delay in receiving the money and means that more service users can benefit from our efforts!!) Should you wish join the STaSS team, please email Mark Voice – Volunteer on markywillum@hotmail.co.uk who will include you on the list and give you further information.

MK social workers launch HIV hardship fund

STaSS received an unexpected donation from one of the social work teams at Milton Keynes Council who held a collection amongst themselves to mark World AIDS Day. We’ve recently established a Hardship Fund for service users so we plan to put the money into that account. The Hardship Fund enables us to help service users who suddenly find themselves in a difficult situation and we’re very grateful that donations such as this have enabled to set up this Fund.

Volunteers Needed to Sell Raffle Tickets

STaSS has a slot on 16th December 2011 between 1.00 and 5.00 p.m. in the Shopping Centre MK to sell raffle tickets in the Community Car Auction. We need to try and sell as many tickets as possible, as all the charities involved in selling tickets get a percentage of the ticket money, and the more tickets you sell the more funds you raise! If you can spare some time to help us, even if it’s only an hour please let Carole our Service Co-ordinator know by emailing her at carole@stass.org.uk or phoning on 01908 282185.

The Red Ball – A big success

Our Ball at the end of November proved to be a big success. Ticket sales went slowly at the start but there was a sudden flurry towards the end and well over 100 people dined and danced the night away.  The Silent Auction raised lots of money for us, with the bottle of whisky signed by the Prime Minister going for a phenomenal £80! We’d like to say a very big thank you to all those local individuals, firms and businesses who donated the prizes, they certainly helped to make the night go with a swing.

Fabulous prizes for the Red Ball silent auction

We’ve managed to accumulate a wide range of prizes for the silent auction at the Ball. We thought it might be difficult to persuade local shops and businesses to donate gifts but we’ve found this not to be the case. Our volunteers have worked hard to collect a variety of items including sports memorabilia, patisserie lessons and even a bottle of wine signed by the Prime Minister!

Come to the sparkling Red Ball

red glitter ballSTaSS’ main fund-raising event of the year, the Red Ball will take place at the Hilton Hotel on Friday 25th November. The aim is to raise our profile and make some money at the same time, to enable us to extend our services. Dress code is formal and we’re hoping to see lots of people in, or wearing a touch of red.  It’ll be a fun evening with entertainment and an auction. If you’d like to buy tickets please phone our office on 01908 282185.

STaSS receives surprise donation

MoneyWe are very grateful to one of our volunteers, Thierry, who has donated £106 of sponsorship money to us. Thierry was unable to take part in the event for which he had collected the money, so with his sponsors’ agreement he donated the money he had already received to STaSS. We asked Thierry how he’d like the money to be spent and he has chosen for the donation to go towards volunteer costs. We are very grateful to Thierry for this kind gesture.
